What You Will Find

In the summer of 2004, three new 16 x 18 trapper style
log cabins were built for public use cabins. The remainder of the cabins
are historic log cabins built around the turn of the century.
- Each cabin includes a table, benches, plywood bunks (without mattresses),
wood heating stove, axe/maul where appropriate, fire extinguisher,
broom, shovel, water bucket, an established campfire ring and an
outhouse.
- The cabins do not have electricity, bedding, or cooking utensils.
- You will need to take a gas or propane stove for cooking, your
own sleeping bags, pads, pots, pans, plates, utensils, toilet paper,
garbage bags, fire starter and insect repellent.
- Pre-cut firewood is not provided at cabins. If you do not bring
your own firewood, you may collect only dead and down wood for fire
use.
- Use Refuge established campfire ring for outside fires. Please
make sure your fire is "cold" before you leave the cabin.
- Weather may affect the length of your stay. Unsafe boating or
flying conditions can occur at any time of year.
- Always prepare for the possibility of bad weather and an extended
stay.
- Rain gear and warm clothing are essential; waterproof boots and
extra food and clothing are recommended.
Safety
- Be cautious in bear country. We recommend taking local maps,
a compass, flashlight, waterproof matches, knife, first-aid
kit, space blanket, flares, and personal protection such as
a gun or bear repellent if you wish.
- Cellular phone coverage is sporadic throughout the Refuge.
- Boats and oars may be furnished at selected cabins on certain
lakes. Users must provided a U. S. Coast Guard approved flotation
device for each passenger aboard the boat, and use boats at
their own risk.
- Please leave your itinerary with friends so they will know
where to look if you do not return on time or need assistance.
Camping Etiquette
Cabin users are required to:
- PACK OUT all garbage including unused food and fuel and PACK
OUT empty fuel cans.
- A permit day begins at 12 noon on the assigned day and ends
at 12 noon the following day. (Gear should be packed and out
of the cabin for the next group.)
- Please leave a clean cabin so the next users will also enjoy
their stay.
Know Before You Go
Copies of fishing and hunting regulations may be obtained
from the Alaska
Department of Fish and Game. Refuge
specific regulations can be picked up at Kenai National Wildlife
Refuge headquarters in Soldotna.
How You Get There
Getting there can be half the fun. It can also be
a challenge. Very few cabins can be reached without the use of a
boat or an aircraft.
See individual cabin information
for more information regarding access.
