Recreation Opportunities

This cabin allows for an excellent family outing with a short .2 mile walk from the parking lot to the cabin. Wildlife in the area includes moose, and black and brown bears. The cabin is located in the Skilak Wildlife Recreation Area in the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. This area is closed to hunting and trapping except that small game may be taken from October 1 through March 1 by bow and arrow only. Review Alaska Department of Fish and Game hunting and fishing regulations. Fishing is popular for Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden trout.

Special Considerations

Skilak Lake Road receives minimal maintenance in the winter so check driving conditions before leaving. Bringing a personal cooking stove is recommended. Carry in potable water or boil surface water 5 minutes before drinking. Users must provide a U. S. Coast Guard approved flotation device for each passenger aboard the boat, and use boats at their own risk. Remember to pack out your trash. Contact the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge office at (907) 262-7021 for more detailed information.
